I
respect Russia a lot. Russians have very difficult climate. Hence, they
have to be physically strong to survive such a harsh climate.
Their history is inspirational:
We know to some extent about the Russian Revolution of 1917, Lenin coming to power and then the fast developments in Russia. Cold-war between Russia & USA. Disintegration of USSR into many small countries in 1991. I have heard that the basic necessities like gas & water pipeline are there even in the remotest part of Forest for people to survive, I don't know how true it is.
But recently we heard that things are not that well in Russia. I am not very sure about this but this is the general perception. Not many economic developments, modernization, less opportunities for youth, etc.
I think in physics, mechanical engineering, mathematics, defence technology Russia is number one.
Trusted friend of India. Always supported with Defence equipments even when India was not economically stable. Russia is strategic partner of India. Support from Russia to India includes the following:

- Mechanical Engineering of Russians is extraordinary, Trans-siberian train is phenomenal.

- Very good in mathematics. Whenever faculty in our college teach Mathematics they always take the name of Russian mathematicians like Andrey Kolomogorov for Probability theory, Markov, Chebyshev and many more.
- Phenomenonal achievements in sports Chess, gymnastics.
- ACM-ICPC champions are mostly Russians.
